Madhya Pradesh in Central India is home to some of India's beautiful hill resorts. Panchmarhi was developed as a hill resort by the British and retains an old world colonial charm. The architecture of the churches and buildings built by the British, displays this even today.

The landscape of Panchmarhi is sure to enchant every traveller to this beautiful hill resort. The red sandstone has been carved by the forces of wind and water into fascinating shapes and the contrast between the red soil, the green vegetation and the clear rippling water is a delight to the traveller's eye.

Travel Attractions in Panchmarhi:

Catholic Church:
Built by the British in 1892, with its Belgian stained-glass windows the church in Panchmarhi, is a notable travel attraction. The Church has a cemetery with graves dating back to 1859, and is the final resting ground for many soldiers from both World Wars.

Christ Church:
Built by the British in 1875, this church is generally regarded as the most beautiful small church in Madhya Pradesh. The Church's has a hemispherical dome on top with its ribs ending with faces of angels. The stained-glass panes decorating the walls and rear of the altar were imported from Europe. They present a beautiful sight as the sunlight passes through them. The bell is as old as the church and its chimes can be heard from far away.

Satpura National Park:
Experience the wild green beauty of Panchmarhi at this National Park, set up in 1981, which is home to a mmany species of flora and fauna including sal, bamboo and teak trees and tigers, leopards, deer and many varieties of birds.

Bison Lodge:
The oldest house in Pachmarhi, constructed in 1862, the Bison Lodge is now a beautiful museum, which displays the rich flora and fauna of Pachmarhi.

Pandav Caves
Five ancient dwellings excavated in the sandstone rock in a low hill. Pachmarhi derives its name from these caves, which, as the legend goes, once provided sanctuary to the five Pandav brothers. These caves are now protected monuments.

Priyadarshini:
Previously known as Forsyth Point, this vantage point marks the spot from where Pachmarhi was discovered by a British Officer Captain Forsyth in 1857.

Handi Khoh
This stunning ravine has a 300 feet high precipice and precipitously steep sides.

Mahadeo
Regarded as holy Mahadeo Hill has a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and an impressive Shivlinga. On the East Side of the hill is an ancient cave shelter with rock paintings.
